All quiet on the furcle front?

Never fear!  There are some interesting updates coming based on your generous feedback and observations of how furcle has been used so far.

We're beavering away on adding a the ability for your to log in with your Facebook or Twitter details.  Super!  It should make registering and logging in just that little bit simpler.  And we're all about making it simpler for secondhand stuff to live a full life.

Stay tuned furclers.

Don't Buy July

We all love buying new stuff. It’s therapy right? But the environment and our hip pockets aren’t feeling so cheery.

For the month of July what if we decided to think before we buy. To get the things we need second-hand. Not stuff like groceries, but stuff like a bike or a port-a-cot or a lamp. Maybe a lama?

So we don’t buy new. We don’t contribute to land-fill. And we save ourselves a bit of mula.

Give or swap. If you have something perfectly good but don’t need it, don’t send it to landfill, list it on furcle.

Find stuff. Don’t rush to the shops in July, find what you need on furcle. It’s Australia’s new online garage sale.

It’s free. It’s simple. It’s local. It’s about re-use.

Sign up at furcle.com. Where stuff comes full circle.

Feel like spreading the news? Here's a pamphlet to share.  If you're on the Twitter, tweet away with #donbuyjuly.  If you're on the Facebook check out the Don't Buy July page.

Our new arrival

I can't tell you how excited we are that furcle is almost ready.  It's our first try at using the web to help people re-use secondhand goods.  Give, swap, pay or sell - we're trying to make it simple for people to list the stuff they don't want and other to find secondhand stuff they do want.  It's all about not buying new things when it's not necessary, keeping goods out of landfill and in circulation.

Anyway enough waffling, stay tuned!  We'll be releasing some more information soon.  Stay in the loop - subscribe to furcle work or follow furcle on twitter.

As friends of ours say.  Exciting!

furcle likes Wilga Avenue

We say we're about re-use at furcle.  What we're really about is doing more with what we've already got (or in some cases what others have got but don't need or want).  As a result we thought that the things that the folks over at Wilga Avenue in Dulwich Hill, Sydney, Australia are doing is amazing.

We think this was submitted as part of a competition for OriginEnergy called "Sustainability Drive" but suspect that Wilga Avenue was well underway before the competition came along.

Check out what they've managed to do with their street!

The furcle homepage

Hi everyone. Well, we've made some progress.

Finally, we've managed to get the homepage developed and published.  It's rough but we've started!  The links are also active for getting some information about furcle.

We're very excited about the progress over the last couple of months. It doesn't seem like much on the face of it but there's been plenty going on behind the scenes preparing the first release of furcle for testing with furcle followers.  Exciting times!

We'll be sure to keep you up to date over the next few weeks with details of progress and, more importantly, further details about what furcle is and how it will help us to achieve one of our goals - to help reduce unnecessary consumption.

In the mean time we'd recommend you check out the homepage and follow the steps to become a tester for the pre-release versions of furcle and, as always, send us some feedback.

Until next time.

The furcle team.

Welcome!

Hi there and welcome to the furcle blog!

Here at furcle we're all about "full circle". That means making sure that before you buy that shiny new thing you think "do I need it?" or maybe "do I need a new one?". We're trying to make sure that all stuff in the closets and garages around the world that isn't seeing the light of day may one day again grace us with it's presence and help someone else out.

We're hoping you'll come along for the journey and, with your help, create something to help us all reduce consumption. Hey, even in times like this, you might save a buck by looking for something second hand.

As this is only the first post, we wont go into too much detail just yet, but we're hoping to bring you more information shortly about what furcle is, what it is we're trying to achieve and any other interesting information related to reducing consumption in the very near future.
